Winnebago County celebrates Crisis Co-Responder Week

WINNEBAGO COUNTY, Ill. (WIFR) - Co-Responders hang out with the community at Meg’s Daily Grind to celebrate Crisis Co-Responder Week.

Coffee with a Co-Responder took place from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. Sept. 19th at 3885 N. Perryville Road.

“This is huge for us to have people come out and meet us, know what we do, see how important our work is, and these kinds of events, they’re great just as a celebration for the officers and our clinicians that are involved in this,” says Paul Gallagher, Assistant Deputy Chief with the Rockford Police Department.

Crisis Co-Responders go to live calls and connect people in crisis to appropriate services in Winnebago County. Area police departments work together with Rosecrance Behavioral Health to properly help people with mental health and substance abuse issues.

“This helps people in their daily lives,” Gallagher says. “This program will reduce emergency room visits, it will increase better health, and that’s our goal.”
