Windows 11 Surpasses Windows 10 as the Top Choice for Gamers on Steam

According to the latest Steam statistics,
Windows 11
has claimed the top spot as the most popular gaming operating system, surpassing its predecessor
Windows 10
for the first time. Despite Microsoft's announcement to end support for Windows 10 in October 2025, the older OS has held its ground. However, recent data indicates that
Windows 11
adoption is on the rise.

Windows 11
has seen a significant increase in usage on Steam, with
Windows 11
now accounting for 49 per cent of users, up from 46 per cent in July. In contrast,
Windows 10
usage has dropped by three per cent to 47 per cent, while macOS and Linux usage have remained steady.

The adoption of
Windows 11
has been steadily increasing online over the past year. In July 2023,
Windows 11
captured a market share of 23 per cent, which has now grown to nearly 32 per cent as of August 2024, as reported by StatCounter.

Leaked data from October revealed that
Windows 11
was being used on over 400 million devices, although at a slower adoption rate compared to
Windows 10
.
Windows 10
reached 400 million active devices in just one year, while
Windows 11
took two years to achieve the same milestone. This delay can be attributed to the strict hardware requirements for
Windows 11
, such as the need for a TPM security chip and CPUs released from 2018 onwards.
