Wedding Guests Canceled Vacation to Attend Friend's Wedding Only To Find Out They Were Invited to Ceremony

"We cancelled everything for them and now we can’t even get to watch them being married!" one Redditor lamented

A woman is still shocked by how her friend's wedding unfolded.

In a post shared to the Reddit page r/weddingshaming, a user claimed that they canceled their vacation to attend their friends' wedding — to only find out weeks before the nuptials that they weren't invited to the actual ceremony.

The woman explained that she and her boyfriend used to attend music festivals all the time and had planned a trip to one taking place on July 7 before finding out their "good friend" was getting married on the same date.

"They proceeded to say that a festival isn’t as important as a wedding, that we should cancel it and come to their wedding," the user said. "So we did. Cancelled everything. To be at our [friend's] wedding."

Then the bride and groom suddenly became evasive about sharing details. Just four weeks out, the friend then told the woman that the wedding was taking place on a boat and only family were allowed on board, but she was welcome to join in the evening for the party later on.

The bride and groom also informed the woman that the wedding date was now July 5 and not July 7.

Still, they attended the nuptials despite all the changes.

"We ended up renting a taxi for a group of friends who also 'missed the boat' to at least get a drink and party," the woman concluded her post. "Except it was a VERY expensive cash bar only. So no drinking, bad music, no wedding ceremony. And no holiday."

Fellow Redditors were shocked by the friends' manipulation of the truth regarding their wedding date and guest expectations.

"I don't understand why you attended the reception after you found out how rude your 'friends' are," one user wrote. "The reception isn't worth your time after the way they treated you"

Another asked: "Who lies about the wedding date and makes people cancel plans only to not invite them!" "I would've walked the second I realized how much they disrespected me," a third wrote.

Other Redditors were surprised at the friend asking them to cancel their own plans. "When I was inviting people to our wedding, some already had other plans," another wrote.

"Never would I tell them to postpone their plans for our wedding. And if I would be so foolish to do this, I would not have this wedding without the friends I berated to come. What a selfish person... are you still friends?"
