Three wounded after South Side shooting

Three people were hospitalized Saturday morning after a shooting in the South Side of Billings.

Officers have yet to apprehend a suspect in the shooting, according to a statement from the Billings Police Department, and investigators have closed a block of Third Avenue South.

Billings police responded to the report of a shooting around 5 a.m. on Saturday, BPD Sgt. Daren Haider said. They found three people all apparently wounded by gunfire. Emergency crews took them to the hospital. Although their wounds were serious, Haider said, they were not life-threatening.

The 2600 block of Third Avenue South will remain closed with BPD detectives survey the area.

Gunfire has been the cause of death in six of the 11 homicides in and around Billings so far this year. In 2023, there were at least 10 fatal shootings in Yellowstone County.
