JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) -- CHOW’s biggest fundraiser of the year returns with the CHOW Hunger Walk.

The walk aims to spread awareness about hunger in Broome County, raise funds to provide food to community members in need, and the chance to exercise as a community.

”Yeah, it’s amazing, the fact that it’s been going on for forty-two years is something I always mention. So forty-two years, chow itself has been around since 1976,” Director of CHOW, Les Aylesworth said.

The CHOW Hunger Walk event began at noon, but the walk in the Oakdale Commons began at 1 p.m.

“We’ve been in the community a long time doing the work we do to fight food insecurity and so having people out here today to come out and show support, it is heartwarming” Aylesworth added.

Participants also got to enjoy games at the Dick’s House of Sport athletic field, live music, entertainment and family-friendly activities all afternoon.

The walk gathered many attendees who supported the mission to end food insecurity in Broome County.

“I love to support our community, I love to support all these people that come and they try their best to help the community,” CHOW Walk Attendee Lucie Scully said. “It’s so important because there’s such a great need and I just think it’s, it’s wonderful to have.

The Broome County Celtic Pipes and Drums led the walk and provided live music.
