Step Back in Time: PoCo Muse Showcases Historic Trades in Living History Demonstration
"
PoCo Muse, short for the Porter County Museum, is set to bring history to life through a living history demonstration showcasing historical trades.

A Blast from the Past

Living-history reenactors will transport visitors back in time as they demonstrate various historical trades from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17th.

Expert Interpretation

Ian Baker, a seasoned living-history interpreter from Michigan City, has organized this captivating event to highlight the skills of the past.

An Immersive Experience

“Our reenactors hail from all across the Midwest,” Baker shared. “With years of dedicated research and practice, they bring to life the trades of yesteryear, such as blacksmithing, spinning yarn, carpentry, gunsmithing, and more. Visitors are encouraged to engage with the interpreters and learn about these fascinating professions. Drop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to witness history come alive.”

Where History Unfolds

The outdoor demonstration will unfold on the lush lawn at the southeast corner of the Porter County Courthouse Square in Valparaiso. This family-friendly event will be located on the corner of Franklin Street and Indiana Avenue, right across from the museum at 20 Indiana Ave.

Director's Insight

Kevin Matthew Pazour, the museum's Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event. “Ian Baker and his team of interpreters have been a staple at PoCo Muse, and this showcase promises to be truly captivating. The demonstrations will feature trades that were once the heartbeat of communities, now fading into obscurity. These skilled tradespeople, clad in nineteenth-century attire, will remind us of the invaluable role they played in society.”

Plan Your Visit

The museum is open to visitors from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday through Sunday. For more details about this event and other offerings, please visit pocomuse.org or follow @pocomuse on social media.
