In a unique initiative, Riverside High School in Kanawha County, W.Va. has set up the Warrior Wearhouse store where students are gaining valuable business skills beyond the conventional classroom setting.
Transforming Education:
Riverside Warriors are immersing themselves in the world of business, thanks to the guidance of dedicated teacher Emily Bowles. With a focus on real-world applications, students are learning essential skills that will prepare them for the competitive workforce. Bowles emphasizes the importance of initiative and hard work in professional settings, traits that are being instilled in the students through this practical learning experience.
Hands-On Learning:
The Warrior Wearhouse store, operational during lunch hours, offers students the opportunity to practice budgeting, customer service, and inventory management. The store provides a selection of drinks, snacks, and spirit-wear, attracting a constant flow of customers. Initially started with 22 participants, the program has now expanded to include 22 seniors who oversee the day-to-day operations, led by store manager Laila Campbell.
Skills for Success:
Campbell, who is also a candidate for student council president, acknowledges the impact of the store on her communication and organizational skills. The hands-on experience of managing a store is equipping students with valuable lessons in money management, marketing strategies, and problem-solving. Riverside High School students view the Warrior Wearhouse as a platform that not only enhances their academic learning but also prepares them for the challenges of the real world.
Empowering the Future:
With a focus on practical skill development, Riverside High School's innovative approach to education is shaping students to be proactive and competent individuals. By incorporating business learning into the curriculum, the school is ensuring that its students are well-prepared to navigate the demands of the modern workforce. The Warrior Wearhouse stands as a testament to the school's commitment to holistic education that goes beyond textbooks and classrooms, providing students with the tools they need to succeed in the dynamic world of business.
