Public Infosession: MBTA 40A Multi-Family Zoning Overlay District

On Thursday, September 26, 2024, at 6 p.m., the Town Council 40A Subcommittee will host a public infosession to update the community on Wakefield’s MBTA 40A Multi-Family Zoning Overlay District Project. The meeting will take place in person in the Public Safety Building’s community room, located at 1 Union Street, and virtual via Zoom

Massachusetts recently passed a state law that requires MBTA communities to have a zoning district where multi-family housing is permitted “as of right.” Under the law, Wakefield is classified as an MBTA Commuter Rail Community. The deadline for Wakefield to adopt such a district is December 31, 2024. Recognizing the implications should Wakefield not comply with the state regulation, the Town Council has created a subcommittee to assess Wakefield’s approach.
