A pedestrian died Friday night after he was struck by two vehicles while crossing the Seward Highway in Midtown Anchorage, police said.

Patrol officers responded to the pedestrian collision shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, the Anchorage Police Department said in an online statement. Initial information indicated that a man was crossing the northbound lanes of the highway near East 36th Avenue, about 500 feet south of the crosswalk at that intersection, when a Subaru hit him, police said. A Toyota then also struck the man, according to police.

Medics with the Anchorage Fire Department took the man to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

“No citations or charges have been filed; the investigation remains open and ongoing,” police said.

The man is the 11th pedestrian to die in Anchorage so far this year.

The collision temporary closed the northbound lanes of the highway between Tudor Road and 36th, and they reopened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.
