PA-Grown Pumpkins Take Center Stage in Statewide Carving Contest

In a bid to celebrate the beauty and creativity of Pennsylvania agriculture, Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding is calling on Pennsylvanians to showcase their carving skills using locally grown pumpkins. The PA Preferred® pumpkin contest, known as PA Pumpkin Palooza: Where Gourds Go Glam, is now open for entries.

Expressing Support Through Art

Secretary Redding emphasized the importance of supporting local farmers by purchasing PA-grown pumpkins. He highlighted the abundance of pumpkin patches in the state and the superior quality of products available. By choosing a PA pumpkin for carving or painting, individuals not only display their pride in the state but also contribute to the prosperity of local farms and communities.

A Contest for All Ages

Participants can submit their entries in two categories - painted pumpkins and carved pumpkins. Winners will be selected from three age groups: Children (11 and under), Youth (12 - 17), and Adults (18+). To enter, simply email a photo of your creation, along with personal details and information on the PA farm where the pumpkin was purchased, to agcontests@pa.gov. Submissions are welcome from September 23 to October 20, with the announcement of winners scheduled for October 31, 2024.

Showcasing Pennsylvania Pride

Winning entries and the farms where the pumpkins were sourced will be showcased on PA Preferred's Instagram account and the PA Department of Agriculture's Facebook page. In addition to recognition, winners will receive a PA Preferred swag bag filled with delightful Pennsylvania treats as a token of appreciation.
