The underground punk scene in San Antonio is about to get a new home with the upcoming grand opening of 'Whatever' inside Club 727.
A Fresh Start for the Hardcore Community
After the closure of DIY venues like Snake Hill, the hardcore-punk community was left without a space, but now, a new haven is on the horizon. Club regular and photographer Clementine Marie is set to unveil a DIY speakeasy named 'Whatever,' aiming to provide a space for creatives to thrive once again.
Secret Location, Big Plans
Tucked away in a hidden side room of Club 727, Whatever will have its own separate entrance for patrons to discover. Paying homage to the venue's past as The Guillotine and The Sanctuary, Whatever features a guillotine in its logo, adding a touch of history to the new space. Located near San Antonio College and the St. Mary's Strip, the venue promises to offer a unique experience for punk and hardcore enthusiasts.
A Diverse Lineup and Inclusive Environment
The opening event on Sept. 15 will welcome guests of all ages with a cover charge of $5, emphasizing accessibility. While the lineup is still in the works, Whatever plans to focus on punk and hardcore music in the long run. A future show on Oct. 24 will showcase Reality Denied from Niagara Falls, N.Y., along with other talented acts. Additionally, Whatever will host special events including karaoke nights and activities for the LGBTQ+ community.
A Safe Haven for Creativity
Marie envisions Whatever to be a safe and inclusive space for all individuals to create, perform, and connect. Building on the legacy of Snake Hill, Whatever aims to be a sanctuary where memories are made and creativity thrives. With a commitment to providing a welcoming environment for everyone, Whatever is set to become a cornerstone of the San Antonio punk scene.
