New Dining Options in NOLA: Red Bird Fried Chicken Closes, Making Room for Desi Vega's Prime Burgers & Shakes, While Gordon Biersch Brewpub Bows Out

The culinary scene in New Orleans is constantly evolving, and two notable changes are taking place in the city's dining landscape.

Red Bird Fried Chicken Closes, Making Way for Desi Vega's Prime Burgers & Shakes

A popular spot for fried chicken lovers, Red Bird Fried Chicken at 911 Harrison Ave. has officially closed its doors. In its place, the renowned Desi Vega's Prime Burgers & Shakes from Harahan will be opening a second location. Set to debut in early October, partner Desi Vega expressed his enthusiasm for the new Lakeview location, highlighting its ideal setting for expansion.

The Harrison Avenue address has been a hotspot for burger enthusiasts for years, previously housing establishments like Lakeview Harbor and Three B's Burger & Wine Bar. The evolving concept of Desi Vega's Prime Burgers & Shakes promises an expanded menu, full table service, and a focus on the existing large bar.

Gordon Biersch Brewpub Closes Doors After a 20-Year Run

On a different note, the Gordon Biersch brewpub located at 200 Poydras St. bid farewell to its patrons after two decades of operation. As one of the establishments that popularized the brewpub model in the 90s, Gordon Biersch offered a range of German-style brews in a family-friendly environment.

Despite its closure, the Gordon Biersch brand leaves behind a legacy in New Orleans, where craft brewing was just starting to gain momentum. The future of the prominent space, owned by Caesars Casino, remains uncertain as discussions with national partners are ongoing.

These changes reflect the dynamic nature of the culinary scene in New Orleans, where old favorites make way for new and exciting dining options.
