New Bar and Late Night Food Spot Set to Open in Historic New Orleans Building

Once a major recording studio, downtown New Orleans spot to become a vibrant late-night food and cocktail bar

Reviving History with Junebug

A new bar, Junebug, is set to open at the downtown building at 748 Camp St., bringing life back to a historic spot with a significant role in New Orleans music history. After sitting dormant for some time, the building will soon be transformed into a bar focused on cocktails and a kitchen offering late-night food options, with an expected opening in October.

Hospitality Group Expansion

Neighborhood Restaurant Group, the hospitality company behind Junebug, is known for its diverse concepts like Brewery Saint X and Devil Moon BBQ. Founded by Michael Babin, originally from Baton Rouge, the group is expanding its footprint in New Orleans with this new project.

Team Behind the Bar

Greg Engert, named sommelier of the year in 2010 by Food + Wine, joins the project as a partner and beverage director. Sophie Burton, known for her work at Bar Tonique and Holy Diver, will lead the bar with a menu featuring a special focus on brandy, craft beers, and a selection of wines from small producers. Shannon Bingham, renowned for his barbecue skills, will helm Junebug's kitchen, blending French and Louisiana influences for an approachable yet sophisticated bar food menu.

A Nod to the Past

The building at 748 Camp St. has a rich history, once housing the legendary Jazz City recording studio of Cosimo Matassa. Junebug plans to honor this musical legacy with a vinyl collection soundtrack from the early and mid-70s. With a spacious brick-lined courtyard and potential event space, Junebug is poised to become a hub for quality food, drinks, and entertainment in downtown New Orleans.
