Residents of Northwest Goldberg in Detroit came together on Monday to mark the grand opening of the latest affordable housing complex in the city.

Named 'Dreamtroit', the 81-unit complex is an initiative to provide housing options for the existing community, allowing residents to foster a strong sense of belonging and creativity. The project, spearheaded by Matthew Naimi and Oren Goldenberg, repurposed an old auto factory into a multifunctional complex and artist haven.

Community Unity and Artistic Expression

Throughout Dreamtroit, vibrant murals, portraits, and art installations adorn the walls, reflecting the diverse and artistic spirit of the residents. Artist Walter Bailey expressed his excitement, stating that the complex symbolizes the future and serves as a home to numerous artists.

Diverse Housing Options

Featuring loft-style apartments with studio, one, and two-bedroom layouts, Dreamtroit offers a total of 81 units, with approximately 58 units classified as affordable. Notably, 21% of the units are categorized as deeply affordable, contributing to the city's goal of achieving a balanced housing market.

Cultural Enrichment and Community Engagement

Beyond housing, Dreamtroit provides communal spaces for artists to collaborate and innovate, along with retail stores and a live music venue. Excitement is already building for Brick Fest 2024, where Baby Tron will headline at Lincoln Art Park, showcasing the beauty and vibrancy of the Lincoln Factory.

Supporters commend Dreamtroit as a transformative project that intertwines arts, culture, and community within the realm of affordable housing. Goldenberg emphasized the importance of inclusivity, ensuring that the development preserves the essence of the pre-existing community. The initiative signifies a step towards sustainable and equitable housing solutions in Detroit."
