Motorcyclist dies after being thrown from bike during crash on Route 9

A motorcyclist was killed in a crash involving a motor vehicle on Route 9 in Berlin on Wednesday afternoon.

Troopers responded to the scene of the crash on Route 9 North near the Exit 33 on-ramp around 4:14 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Connecticut State Police.

State police said a Harley-Davidson motorcycle was traveling on Route 9 North in the left lane in the area of Exit 33 when a Chevrolet Impala traveling in the right lane encroached into the left lane and collided with the bike. According to state police, the motorcyclist was ejected from the bike during the collision.

State police said the motorcyclist, identified as 65-year-old Paul Krampitz of Cromwell, suffered suspected life-threatening injuries and was transported to New Britain Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Chevrolet driver, a 24-year-old man from New Britain, told troopers he was not injured and declined medical treatment, according to state police.

State police said the crash remains under investigation.
