The Cardinals swept the Pirates on Thursday evening to restore some stability in Capitol - South conference play.
The Marshall volleyball program had some added pressure heading into the first of its two annual rivalry meetings with Waterloo on Thursday, Sept. 19. The game itself holds weight due to the Pirates' dominance of the Capitol - South conference prior to the Cardinals wrenching the crown from them last season.
But, Marshall's grip on that title had slipped a bit earlier in the week. The Cardinals took a five-set loss at Cambridge on Tuesday, Sept. 17 their first against a Capitol - South opponent since October of 2022. Despite this setback, Marshall looked much more like the defending conference champ in Thursday's rivalry showdown.
