AUBURN, Maine (WMTW) - A 25-year-old man was arrested early Saturday after police said he caused up to $90,000 in damage to dozens of vehicles at a car dealership in Auburn.

Police were called to Rowe Auburn on Center Street at about 4:06 a.m. for a report of a suspicious situation, according to authorities. The caller advised dispatchers that “the sooner police arrived, the less damage there would be.” Officers could hear loud smashing sounds in the background of the call.

When officers arrived, they found Skyler Henson of Auburn swinging a weighted backpack and smashing the windshields and hoods of several cars in the lot, police said. Henson was taken into custody without incident.

A preliminary estimate from the dealership indicated Henson damaged 75 vehicles, causing between $80,000 and $90,000 in damage, police said. The majority of the damage involved broken windshields, though some vehicles sustained body damage as well.

Henson was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail, where he is being held on $5,000 cash bail. He has been charged with aggravated criminal mischief, a Class C felony.
