Luxury Aspirations: What Americans Desire on their Dream Vacation

A recent survey conducted by Talker Research reveals that a fifth of Americans feel they have never experienced true luxury, especially when it comes to travel. However, 82% believe that luxury is attainable during a vacation. When asked about the luxuries they aspire to have on a dream vacation, staying at high-end accommodations topped the list at 50%.

The survey, commissioned by Visit Anaheim and overseen by Talker Research, aimed to explore the different perspectives on luxury among Americans. Notably, less than half of respondents equated luxury with extravagance, with 85% agreeing that luxury is a subjective concept. Many participants associated luxury with expensive items, but some defined it as something that makes them feel special and happy, or as a means to enjoy life to the fullest. Mike Waterman, President & CEO of Visit Anaheim, highlighted the importance of creating lasting memories with loved ones as the ultimate luxury experience. When it comes to splurging on a luxury vacation, the survey found that respondents prioritize their accommodations (55%), followed by spending on food (53%) and the destination itself (34%). Other areas where respondents would invest include the duration of their stay (33%) and the travel arrangements (25%). Ultimately, planning a luxury vacation involves strategic decision-making to enhance the overall experience.
