Inclusive Family Fun Event Draws Protestors in Waxhaw, NC

Union County Pride hosted a Family Fun event in Waxhaw over the weekend, aiming to create an inclusive space for people of all ages to enjoy. Despite the organizers' intentions, protestors showed up, causing tension at the Water Tower Community Corner.
Protestors Express Disagreement
Protesters gathered both inside and outside the fenced event area, holding signs to express their disagreement with the event. The presence of police prevented any escalation, although they did not separate the protestors from the attendees. Union County Pride had previously stated that they had met with law enforcement and town officials, affirming that protestors would not be barred from the event space.
Staying True to the Mission
President Cristal Robinson reiterated the organization's commitment to creating a safe and inclusive environment for the LGBTQ+ community. Despite the opposition, Robinson emphasized the importance of visibility and representation for queer individuals. The group's upcoming event, a Teen Party in Indian Trail on September 28, reflects their dedication to fostering a supportive community. Partnering with Time Out Youth and Charlotte Gaymers Network, Union County Pride continues to advocate for diversity and acceptance.
