Heartwarming Reunion: South Buffalo Kindergarten Class of '53 Meets Monthly with Beloved Teacher After 71 Years

After 71 years, the kindergarten class of Sister Maralynn Sciarrino from 1953 has defied the odds and continued to meet monthly with their teacher at the Wayside Family Restaurant in South Buffalo. A Heartwarming Reunion Last Tuesday, the group of 17 former students gathered to reminisce about their school days, passing around photos and memorabilia from their kindergarten graduation. Surrounded by the classic decor of the restaurant, the group, all around 77 years old, shared stories and laughter, with Sciarrino at the helm. Meeting of Generations Sciarrino, a teacher for over 70 years, has been described by her students as a kind and gentle instructor. Despite the age gap, her students remember her fondly for her nurturing demeanor. Reuniting Old Friends The reunions were initially organized by Lina D'Amore and the late Pat Brophy, who brought the classmates together for the 50th anniversary of their eighth grade graduation. Since then, the group has continued to meet regularly at the restaurant, forming a bond like that of a family. A Source of Comfort and Support For many in the group, Sciarrino has been a source of comfort and prayer during tough times, bringing the classmates closer together in times of need. Despite the loss of some members over the years, the chance to reconnect has been a fulfilling and heartwarming experience for all involved. A Reunion Fueled by Love Reflecting on her teaching career, Sciarrino emphasized the importance of love in fostering a strong bond with her students, who have now become lifelong friends. The reunion has provided a rare opportunity for these classmates to reconnect and share the enduring connection they formed over seven decades ago. Remembering the past with fondness and looking towards the future with hope, the South Buffalo kindergarten class of '53 continues to meet, celebrating the enduring power of friendship and love.
