Miracle Child: Overcoming Childhood Cancer and Advocating for Change

From adversity to advocacy: One inspiring family's journey through childhood cancer

A Mother's Worst Nightmare

"You just don’t know. That’s why you can’t take any moment for granted," Sarah Graczyk, mom to 9-year-old cancer survivor Jade, reflects on their harrowing experience. Before the age of ten, Jade was diagnosed with a form of kidney cancer, leading to a whirlwind of doctors and nurses entering their lives.

A Beacon of Hope

Amidst the chaos, Denise from the Childhood Cancer Coalition entered their lives. "She didn’t want anything from Jade; she just wanted to be there for her," Sarah shared. The coalition aims to support families like the Graczyks impacted by childhood cancer.

Shining a Light on Childhood Cancer

Leslie Woodfill, executive director of the coalition, emphasized the prevalence of childhood cancer, with 170 kids locally affected. The organization provides emergency funds for families facing financial struggles and advocates for increased funding and research in the field.

A Fighting Spirit

After 16 months of grueling treatment, Jade is now cancer-free, with her vibrant personality intact. "Through treatments, she just continued to be Jade. That’s one miracle from this whole thing: she kept her spark and sassiness," Sarah remarked.

Turning Tragedy into Triumph

Inspired by her daughter's resilience, Sarah has dedicated herself to the Childhood Cancer Coalition, organizing the upcoming Light the Way Gala. Although tickets are sold out, supporters can still make a difference by donating through the coalition’s website.
