Fort Worth's 'R3' Initiative Seeks Program Partners for First Responders' Mental Health

Fort Worth, Texas - New Opportunities for Partnership - The Fort Worth Police and Fire Departments are actively seeking new program partners to provide vital support services for first responders' mental health through their Respond, Restore, Resolve Wellness program, known as R3. Launched just three months ago, R3 aims to combat the mental health crisis within the first responder community by offering training, access to non-clinical care resources, and culturally sensitive counseling. Call for Support Services - The program is now looking for partners who can contribute services free of charge or through donations, covering areas such as financial literacy, marriage and family counseling, addiction/substance abuse support, and more. Interested organizations can apply until July 31 by filling out the application form. Focus on Mental Wellness - Jason Ricks, FWPD Sgt. and Wellness Unit Supervisor, emphasized the importance of providing a diverse range of resources tailored to first responders' needs. The inclusion of various support options has already shown positive outcomes in the community, sparking crucial discussions about mental health. Addressing 'Moral Injury' - R3's efforts also include addressing 'moral injury,' defined as the harm to one's conscience or moral values due to witnessing or committing acts contrary to one's ethical beliefs. This aspect of the program operates in collaboration with the American Warrior Association, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting military, veterans, first responders, and their families. Life-Changing Impact - Cliff Weaver, FWFD Chaplain and Wellness Unit Lead, highlighted the transformative impact of the American Warrior Association training received through R3, stressing the need for impactful programs that yield both short-term and long-term benefits for interested first responders. Community Benefits - The police and fire departments anticipate that these initiatives will not only strengthen the mental resilience of officers but also enhance their ability to defuse challenging situations, ultimately benefiting the communities they serve.
