Empowering Fathers: Million Fathers March Takes Roosevelt by Storm

Stanley Ayala proudly poses for a photo with his daughters Temitope, 9, and Temisan, 4, at Centennial Avenue Elementary School in Roosevelt during the Million Fathers March celebration. Clouds loomed over the school, but the atmosphere was filled with smiles as fathers and guardians gathered for the annual event.
Community Unity at Its Best
The participants, including parents from nearly 200 schools globally, arrived at the school to show their support for the importance of male figures in children's lives. Founded by Fathers Incorporated, the Million Fathers March aims to strengthen communities and highlight the crucial role of male role models. Principal Barbara Solomon expressed her delight, noting the presence of former high school students with their own children.
Celebrating Connection
Solomon emphasized the positive impact of fathers' involvement in their children's education, highlighting the joy it brought to students at the event.
Literacy Initiatives
Fathers received literacy packets in English or Spanish, setting the stage for educational workshops throughout the year. Solomon stressed the importance of parental support in improving academic skills and breaking stereotypes, especially for African American and Latino fathers.
Changing the Narrative
The event also featured the collaboration of Furthering Fathering, a local nonprofit supporting fathers' engagement in their children's education. CEO Jeremy Mayard emphasized the significance of fathers' involvement, noting the unique influence of a father's voice.
Prioritizing Children's Education
Father Yves Estriplet commended the initiative, highlighting the collective dedication of fathers towards their children's well-being. Approximately 60 fathers, including Estriplet, signed up to participate in Furthering Fathering's programs, showcasing their commitment to their children's education. The Million Fathers March not only brings fathers together but also empowers them to actively participate in shaping their children's academic journey.
