Dallas Expands Free Menstrual Product Initiative Across the City

Dallas residents now have increased access to free menstrual products throughout the city thanks to the Period Access Dallas initiative.
New Locations Offer Free Menstrual Products
The Kiest Recreation Center in downtown Oak Cliff is the latest addition to the list of locations where residents can obtain a month's supply of menstrual products at no cost. This initiative was launched in 2022 by the Office of Community Care as a response to the lack of access to hygiene products, especially in under-served areas, funded by the American Rescue Plan Act.
Program Expansion
In a recent announcement, the city revealed the expansion of the program to more locations across Dallas, moving beyond its previous concentration in southern areas.
Multilingual Promotion
To ensure widespread awareness, the city has been promoting the initiative in both English and Spanish, utilizing flyers with QR codes that direct residents to the Period Access Dallas website for more information.
Increasing Awareness
The pandemic has heightened awareness of the need for free menstrual products, leading to changes in legislation such as House Bill 4199, which mandates that all school districts provide these products in designated restrooms for female students.
Obtaining Free Menstrual Products
Residents can access the products at various public facilities such as recreation centers, libraries, and community centers, where the products are stocked in bathroom facilities. To request products, individuals can use cards that also serve as surveys to help the city track the demographics of product recipients, with no personal information required.
