Celebrating 25 Years of Indian Culture: IALA's Silver Jubilee Extravaganza in San Fernando Valley

On August 24, the Hjelte Sports Center in Encino, CA, was transformed into a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, as thousands gathered to commemorate India's Independence Day in a stunning display of unity and heritage.

The event, organized by the India Association of Los Angeles (IALA), marked the organization's 25th anniversary, symbolizing a silver jubilee of bringing the community together through cultural festivities. It was a spectacular showcase of a 'mini-India,' featuring local talents representing the diverse cultures of India through mesmerizing performances in music, dance, and art.


Diverse Representation and Support


The event was graced by the presence of esteemed guests including the deputy consul general of India in San Francisco Rakesh Adlakha, LA city councilman John Lee, and LAUSD Board Member Scott Schmerelson, along with various community leaders showing their unwavering support.


A Tribute to Progress and Contributions


IALA Chairman Kankansinh Zala praised India's remarkable progress and global influence, while IALA President Sunil Agrawal expressed pride in the impactful contributions of Indian Americans across various sectors. A special moment included the presentation of the US flag flown over Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., to Agrawal and Zala, symbolizing the strong bonds between India and the US.


Cultural Extravaganza


The event featured a dazzling cultural show curated by Vice President of Culture, Hezal Shah, showcasing performances ranging from classical Kathak and energetic Bhangra to fusion dances and Bollywood numbers. Renowned singer Yash Wadali added a touch of stardom with his captivating voice, mesmerizing the audience with powerful performances.


A Feast for the Senses


With over 60 booths offering a variety of experiences, the fair catered to diverse interests ranging from fashion and food to nonprofit organizations. The India Pavilion provided a hands-on experience for children to connect with their cultural roots through arts and crafts.


Promoting Health and Wellness


A highlight of the day was the free health fair organized by Dr. Bama Sridhar, where thousands benefited from health check-ups and valuable guidance on diet and nutrition.
