Celebrate the Legacy of John T. Scott at the Helis Foundation Center in New Orleans

Art enthusiasts of all ages gathered at the Helis Foundation John Scott Center in New Orleans to celebrate the life and legacy of renowned artist John T. Scott.
Family Fun Day:
The second anniversary festivities included a variety of engaging activities such as crafts, stories, and captivating performances by the Kumbuka African Drum and Dance Collective. Young attendees eagerly participated in the interactive event, with Weston Fancher displaying his acrobatic skills and Isabella Wilson showcasing her talent in kinetic art.
Upcoming Events:
As part of the ongoing celebration, the center will host the Bright Lights Revealed Series, featuring discussions by Humanities Award recipients Freddi Williams Evans and Dr. Michael White on Sept. 19. On Sept. 21, the Pass It On open mic showcase will pay tribute to John T. Scott, serving as a platform for artists to share their poetry, music, and visual art.
Inspiration and Education:
Artist and educator Steve A. Prince will share his experiences under Scott's mentorship on Sept. 26, exploring the fusion of art, history, and community. Attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in Prince's Watercolor Mono-Types workshop on Sept. 28, immersing themselves in contemporary art techniques. The Helis Foundation John Scott Center, located at 938 Lafayette St., serves as a cultural hub dedicated to preserving and promoting John T. Scott's artistic contributions. The center's 6,000-square-foot gallery showcases Scott's innovative approach to art and storytelling, providing a unique and immersive experience for visitors.
