Juneteenth, a significant national commemoration of the emancipation of formerly enslaved African Americans in the United States, is just around the corner. This year marks the 159th anniversary of the historic announcement made by Union General Gordon Granger in Galveston Bay, Texas, where he proclaimed the end of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery through 'General Order Number 3' in 1865, two years after the Emancipation Proclamation.
Embracing Freedom and Unity
The Greater Prince William Community is cordially invited to partake in the festivities at the '4th Annual Greater Prince William Juneteenth Parade' to be held at the picturesque National Park Service's Prince William Forest Park, commencing at 10 a.m. on June 19th. It's a time to celebrate freedom and unity in honor of the 'Divine 9,' who have tirelessly supported Black communities worldwide for over a century. Come together to pay tribute to their unwavering dedication and join in the celebration of Freedom!
