Visual artists from all around the world have gathered in Guiyang, in Southwest China's Guizhou province, to delve into its beauty.
Exploring Guizhou's Unique Charm
The cultural event, known as Visual@China Guizhou 2024, commenced on Wednesday, showcasing the province's distinctive allure through photography, illustration, design, and film.
A group of 31 photographers, illustrators, designers, and filmmakers from various countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and China are embarking on a five-day trip across three cities in Guizhou. They are immersing themselves in the breathtaking landscapes, soaking in the local culture and traditions, exploring ancient villages inhabited by ethnic groups, and savoring local cuisine.
Impressions of Yunshantun Village
William Adlington, a media company executive from the UK, was fascinated by the 600-year-old Yunshantun village in Anshun. Adlington marveled at the ancient houses and structures that reflect the architectural styles of the Ming and Qing dynasties.
Adlington expressed his admiration for the wood carvings and craftsmanship displayed in the ancient buildings, highlighting the village's authenticity and charm.
Engineering Marvels of Guizhou
Nestled in the mountainous terrain, Guizhou boasts an array of impressive bridges that enhance its transportation infrastructure. The province is home to nearly half of the world's top 100 highest bridges, with some ranking among the top 10 globally.
Visual artists were in awe of the Baling River Bridge, standing 370 meters above the river and spanning approximately 2,237 meters. They were captivated by the engineering excellence displayed in the construction of the bridge.
Fresh Experiences in Guizhou
Richard Gavrich, a photography instructor from the US, embarked on his first journey to China and was captivated by the fresh experiences Guizhou offered. Gavrich was particularly intrigued by the vibrant culture and ordinary people he encountered in ancient villages.
James Gensheimer, a portrait photographer from the US, marveled at the advancements in Guizhou's cities, especially in bridge construction and technological innovations.
Showcasing Guizhou's Beauty
Chen Benrong, deputy director of the Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Guizhou Provincial Committee, expressed the hope that global artists can capture and portray the beauty of Guizhou through their artistic lenses and designs.
Liu Weiling, deputy editor-in-chief of China Daily, highlighted the event as a platform for mutual understanding and display between Guizhou and the world, facilitating cultural exchange and appreciation.
