Brass City Ballet Announces Exciting Leadership Collaboration for 40th Anniversary Milestone

Brass City Ballet, a renowned nonprofit dance organization in Middlebury, is proud to announce an innovative leadership structure as they celebrate their 40th anniversary.
New Leadership Structure Unveiled

In a strategic move towards a dynamic future, Founder and Artistic Director Elizabeth Fisk Barisser and current Associate Artistic Director, Julio Alegria, will now jointly hold the position of Artistic Director effective September 1.

This collaborative leadership approach marks a significant moment for Brass City Ballet, signifying a blend of honoring its rich legacy while venturing into new and cutting-edge directions. The partnership between Ms. Barisser and Mr. Alegria ensures the organization's firm grounding in tradition while exploring unique pathways ahead.
A Vision for Growth and Excellence

Mr. Alegria expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating, "It’s been a great year, and I’m excited and looking forward to working alongside Elizabeth to learn more of her styles, culture and traditions while bringing my own energy, experience and styles of instruction to innovate and bring value to our dancers going forward." In an additional accolade, Mr. Alegria has been chosen as the 2024-2025 School of American Ballet National Visiting Fellow, further solidifying his commitment to diverse dance education. This prestigious fellowship will open doors to invaluable growth opportunities for Brass City Ballet, establishing a profound connection with the acclaimed SAB.
Driving Diversity and Excellence

As a gesture of recognition, BCB will be awarded a $5,000 grant from the fellowship program to support diversity-related initiatives within the organization. Ms. Barisser expressed her optimism for the future, stating, "Our new partnership heralds growth in bold new directions. Together, Julio and I look forward to moving BCB forward, hand in hand."
