Blackwater United Methodist 175th Anniversary Celebration: A Legacy Forward
Blackwater United Methodist Church in Central is set to commemorate a significant milestone as it celebrates 175 years of service and ministry to the community. The church will be hosting a special 'Legacy Forward' event to mark this momentous occasion.

Looking Back on History

The church, established in 1848, has a rich history of providing spiritual guidance to the community. Over the years, Blackwater United Methodist Church has witnessed the construction of four sanctuaries and has become a cornerstone for all denominations seeking a place for worship.

A Message for the Future

Senior Pastor Kennon Pickett emphasized the importance of continuing their mission of passing down faith to the next generation. Despite 175 years of history, he highlighted that their work is not complete until Christ's return. The church aims to steward the gifts given to them and build on the foundation laid by their predecessors.

Celebrating Milestones

Bishop Delores J. Williamston, along with other distinguished guests, will be part of the celebration. The 'Legacy Forward' event will also include the groundbreaking for the new Blackwater Center for Community Enrichment, a project aimed at enhancing the church's offerings to the community.

Growing Congregation

In recent years, the church has experienced significant growth, welcoming 130 new members. Pastor Pickett attributes this growth to the spirit and the opportunity to spread hope and the light of Christ within the community.
As Blackwater United Methodist Church looks back on its 175 years of history, it also looks forward to the future with optimism and a commitment to continuing its legacy of service and ministry. For more information about the church and its upcoming events, visit blackwaterumc.org.
