Black Networking and Community Building at Happily Natural Festival in South Side Richmond

Backyard party in South Side Richmond transforms into a vibrant hub for Black networking and community building at the annual Happily Natural festival.
A Diverse Gathering
Happily Natural, founded by farmer-activist Duron Chavis, brings together Black and Brown brothers and sisters from across the country to discuss social justice topics. The event, set in Richmond's historic Manchester neighborhood, has grown to attract over 1,000 attendees in recent years.
Empowering the Community
Chavis emphasizes the importance of forging new relationships, developing self-sufficiency, and acquiring valuable skills to strengthen the Black community. Vendors and representatives offer insights into various fields, from cannabis cultivation to healthcare careers.
Cultural and Political Engagement
The festival also serves as a platform for cultural and political engagement. Representatives from the Zeta Phi Beta sorority assist attendees with voter registration, showing their support for Vice President Kamala Harris and advocating for civic participation.
Sustainable Living
Local farmers and experts like Obar Moyo share tips on urban gardening and sustainable living practices. Moyo, a farmer and carpenter from Petersburg, promotes the idea of growing edible produce in backyard gardens instead of traditional grass lawns. The Happily Natural festival, with its focus on community empowerment and cultural celebration, continues to be a cornerstone event for networking and unity in the Black community.
