The 250th anniversary of the Battle of Point Pleasant will be observed this weekend and next week with a series of events during the annual Battle Days commemoration at Point Pleasant’s Tu-Endie-Wei State Park and a three-day conference at Marshall University.

The Battle of Point Pleasant, fought on Oct. 10, 1774, pitted about 1,000 Virginia Militia soldiers led by Col. Andrew Lewis against a somewhat smaller force of Shawnee and allied warriors led by Cornstalk, the Shawnee chief.
