Angleton ISD Hosts Golden Cat Bingo to Honor Senior Citizens

Senior Citizens Honored at Golden Cat Bingo

Angleton ISD recently hosted the Golden Cat Bingo event to show appreciation towards the senior citizens in the community. The event saw attendees eagerly awaiting their turn to enjoy five rounds of bingo after being treated to a delicious lunch prepared by the Angleton ISD CTE culinary students. The students showcased their culinary skills by serving fruit and vegetable cups, club sandwiches, chips, a salad bar, pudding cups, and cupcakes. This was a unique opportunity for the students to engage with the community and witness firsthand the support they receive from them.

Culinary Delights and Community Engagement

Culinary student Charlie Ronspies, who aspires to become a hotel event planner, took charge of preparing the meal with enthusiasm. The event marked the students' debut in serving the community, allowing them to see the impact of their efforts. The students began food preparation early in the morning, and by 10:30 a.m., everything was plated and served. For senior Daris Warner, participating in the culinary class provided an excellent platform to enhance social skills and gain practical experience in the culinary field.

Building Connections through Education and Support

Director of Community Relations, Christi McCracken, highlighted the significant impact of the event, noting that it was a way to uplift the spirits of the senior community amidst challenging times. The event aimed at showcasing the various offerings available to students in the community, including culinary arts, JROTC, cheer, and athletics. By involving senior citizens in these activities, Angleton ISD sought to create a sense of inclusivity and appreciation within the community.

A Tribute to Community Support

Superintendent Phil Edwards initiated the Golden Cat Bingo event six years ago as a gesture of gratitude towards the senior citizens for their unwavering support towards the school. The event's success lies in bringing together generations and fostering a sense of camaraderie within the community. Through partnerships with various organizations, the event provided an opportunity for citizens to explore different services offered by the community. Golden Cat Bingo not only offered entertainment and prizes but also served as a platform to acknowledge and celebrate the invaluable contributions of the senior community.

In conclusion, Golden Cat Bingo stands as a testament to the bond between Angleton ISD and its senior citizens, emphasizing the importance of community support and engagement. The event's evolution over the years reflects the school district's commitment to fostering meaningful connections and expressing gratitude towards those who have played a vital role in shaping the community's fabric.
