In a heartwarming tale of resilience and strength, 11-year-old Laela Kreider, a resident of Upper Leacock Township, triumphs over Burkitt Lymphoma, a challenging form of cancer.
A Challenging Diagnosis
Laela's journey began when a small bump on her neck caught the attention of her older brother Landry in April 2021. Initially dismissed as an enlarged lymph node, the mass turned out to be something far more insidious. Hospitalized for a respiratory condition that led to a collapsed lung, Laela's condition took a drastic turn, leading to a life-changing discovery.
A Battling Spirit
Laela endured two surgeries and four rounds of intensive chemotherapy inside Penn State Health Children's Hospital. The road to recovery was not easy, with side effects such as hair loss, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting taking a toll on her young body. Despite the challenges, Laela showed remarkable strength and resilience, earning her the nickname 'pistol' from her father.
A Family's Unwavering Support
Throughout Laela's journey, her family stood by her side, providing unwavering support and love. The emotional rollercoaster they experienced together served as a testament to their bond and dedication to one another.
A Bright Future Ahead
Three years since her battle with cancer, Laela is now in remission, enjoying life's simple pleasures as a sixth-grader at Lititz Christian School. Her dreams of becoming a professional basketball player keep her motivated and inspired. While the shadow of secondary cancers looms, Laela remains hopeful and optimistic, guided by her strong faith and unwavering spirit.
An Inspiring Journey
Laela's story is a beacon of hope and inspiration for all who face adversity. Her courage, determination, and unwavering faith serve as a reminder that with resilience and support, anything is possible. As Laela continues to embrace life's joys as an avid swimmer, budding pianist, and basketball enthusiast, her story serves as a reminder of the power of perseverance and positivity in the face of adversity.
