2 injured in fire at Chevron plant in Geismar, Asension Parish sheriff's office says

A fire at the Chevron plant in Geismar injured two people, the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said.

The fire, reported at about 8:30 a.m., has been fully extinguished, according t to a 9:30 a.m. Facebook post from sheriff's office. 

"No off-site impacts have been reported," the sheriff's office said. "Out of an abundance of caution, surrounding roadways were closed temporarily." 

The two injured were flown to Baton Rouge General Hospital's Burn Unit at the medical center's location off Bluebonnet.

One of the injured is in serious condition, with 15% burns to the body, Katie Johnston, director of communications, said Katie Johnston, director of communications with the hospital.

The other injured worker is in good condition, with 2% burns to the body, and will be discharded on Thursday, Johnston said.
