MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A woman was robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday morning in East Memphis before she ran to the FOX13 News station for help, police said.
The woman told Memphis Police (MPD) that she was walking on South Highland Street just before 4 a.m. when a car occupied by five men in ski masks drove past her. The car then made a U-turn toward her direction, police said.
MPD said two of the men — including the driver — jumped out and pointed a handgun at the woman's face. The woman told investigators they did not say anything and she threw her purse on the ground.
One of the men picked up her purse and got back in the car and left, police said. The woman then ran to the FOX13 station on Highland Street for help.
The woman told investigators that her purse had makeup, her driver's license and her phone inside it. MPD said investigators hope to recover video from a nearby traffic camera to help catch the thieves.
