Breakdown: The playoffs, in effect, will begin on Thursday night in Whitney in this rivalry matchup between the Trojans and Wildcats. The winner will qualify for the playoffs as the fourth-place team from District 5-3A Division I, while the loser will start basketball season.

West coach David Woodard confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the schools agreed to move the game to Thursday because of weather concerns on Friday. As a bonus, the winner of the game will get an extra day to prepare for the playoffs.

Both teams have had key playmakers sidelined due to injuries, including Whitney running back Jontae Johnson and West running back Coy Klish. So along with being a de facto playoff game, this one is also somewhat of a battle of attrition.

Whitney snapped a three-game losing streak by rolling over Groesbeck, 74-41, last week.

The winner will face Palmer in the 3A Division I bi-district round next week.
