Officials believe a woman jumped off on Niagara Falls did so ''intentionally',' with her two children in her arms.

On Monday, Chianti Means, 33, who was reportedly suffering from postpartum depression according to family members, was seen by eye witnesses launching herself into the iconic waterfall Eyewitnesses who saw the shocking event unfold alerted police who arrived to Goat Island on Monday at 9:30 p.m.

State Park Police said Thursday that they reviewed security footage of Luna Park, that pointed towards her desperate move being ''intentional.'' Police were able to use the video footage to confirm the sequence of events of the fatal plunge, according to the Niagara Gazette.

Roman Rossman, 9, was the first in the family to go into the water followed by 5-month-old Mecca Means before they were joined by their mom State Police said at a press conference according to the Gazette.

When asked whether the mother was chasing after her children, State Police Public Information Officer Trooper James O’Callaghan said: “No, we believe this was intentional. Not going to get into what the witnesses saw because it’s still an active case, but it is alarming what they told us.''

Chianti reached the falls by climbing over a four-foot guardrail to jump into the water. Both fathers are cooperating with police. None of the three bodies have yet been recovered.

Rumors about Means mental state spread online after her death and the death of her two children Roman Rossman, 9, and 4-month-old Mecca Means. But family members were quick to dispel rumors that Means took her own life and the life of her children because of a bad breakup with the father of her daughter.

Means's cousin Bierra Hamilton, asserted heartbreak was not the motive behind Means's actions. She claims the 33-year-old mother was suffering from postpartum depression. This is a type of depression that many parents - both mums and dads - experience after having a baby.

"Understand this - postpartum [depression] is very real and needs a cure. Her death wasn’t over a man. My cousin was silently fighting depression alone," Hamilton said. She swiftly responded to people spreading false information about the situation involving her cousin, who sometimes went under the name of Diamond Scott.

The Facebook post had read: "Diamond Scott did not end her life over no man. Let's just be clear. It's no evidence of that. YALL BE LOUD AND WRONG." A close friend was left reeling after the tragedy, revealing she felt "sick to her stomach".

Postpartum depression is a prevalent mental health condition that affects many new parents, including both mothers and fathers, within the first year of their child's birth.
