NEW ORLEANS —

A jury has reached a verdict in a trial of a teenager accused of a 2022 armed robbery.

Curtis Tassin, who has a history of escaping custody, was tried as an adult in the armed robbery trial that began on Wednesday.

The jury began deliberations Thursday morning and found Tassin not guilty of the charges.

A 33-year-old woman testified about the moment Tassin approached her with a gun and stole her Mercedes.

She said Tassin pointed a gun in her face and told her if she screamed, he would shoot her.

She then gave Tassin her keys.

Police found Tassin the next day at Lakeside Mall with a gun and similar clothes.

The victim identified the gun but could not pick Tassin out of a lineup.

Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams said his office chose to try Tassin as an adult because of his violent history and history of escape.

Tassin has escaped custody twice, once from the Bridge City Center for Youth and another time when he was on the way to the New Orleans Juvenile Court.
