High School Student and Her DJ Boyfriend Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide on Way to Homecoming

Authorities in Louisiana are investigating the deaths of a young couple whose bodies were found fatally shot on a highway over the weekend. 

Dashayla Ardoin, of Mamou, La., was found dead alongside Glenkeithan Robertson, of Opelousas, La., by responding authorities on Saturday, Oct. 12, along a highway in Acadia Parish, local police said in a statement. The ages of the victims have not been shared by authorities.

“From the investigation, this case is believed to be a murder / suicide,” the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office said in their statement on Monday.

Authorities have not said who the shooter was and have not discussed a possible motive. The Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's requests for comments.

The couple were on their way to Mamou, police said, and their bodies were found about 7 p.m. in the evening. Mamou High School, where Ardoin was a student, was hosting its homecoming that evening, per the school’s Facebook page.

In a tribute posted online, Mamou High School said the community is mourning “one of our own.”

“Dashayla will always be remembered for her courage and bravery, her kind heart, and her beautiful smile,” read a part of the tribute posted on Monday. “She was so very loved and will be dearly missed.”

Robertson’s Facebook page shows he was a local DJ. In an Instagram post from about two months ago, Robertson shared a photo of him and Ardoin with the caption: "Me & You Against The World."

After Saturday's shooting, one Markeyla Sparrow, identifying herself as Robertson’s sister, wrote on Facebook that he was “loving” and urged people to not jump to conclusions about the case.

“Y’all Don’t Label My Brother As A KILLER & SELFISH My Momma [didn't] Raise NO KILLERS,” read part of the post.
