JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) - With the holidays just around the corner, it’s time to fill the food bank.

For our neighbors facing food insecurity, the holidays can be a stressful time of year.

To ease their concerns and put food on their tables, join us from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, at the Highland Drive Walmart in Jonesboro.

You can also drop off any unexpired, nonperishable food or monetary donations at any of the following locations:

  • Harps, 1020 E. Main St. in Piggott
  • Sam’s Club, 2405 S. Caraway Rd. in Jonesboro
  • Walmart Supercenter, 1911 W. Parker Rd. in Jonesboro
  • Walmart Supercenter, 2802 W. Kingshighway in Paragould
  • Walmart Supercenter, 1211 Hwy. 367 North in Newport
  • Walmart, 1600 W. Main St. in Walnut Ridge
  • Walmart Supercenter, 2720 W. Keiser Ave. in Osceola
  • Walmart Supercenter, 3700 E. State Highway 18 in Blytheville
  • Edwards Food Giant, 605 N. Illinois Ave. in Harrisburg
  • Walmart Supercenter, 512 Industrial Park Dr. in Trumann
  • Walmart Supercenter, 1415 Highway 67 South in Pocahontas
  • Walmart Supercenter, 205 Deadrick Rd. in Forrest City

Each $1 donation can provide as many as 3.5 meals. Every 1.2 pounds of nonperishable food donated equals one meal, according to Elizabeth Johnson with the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas.

“There are 65,870 people in Northeast Arkansas that are food insecure,” Johnson told K8 News, which is once again sponsoring the food drive.

Of those, she said 22,960 are children.

All donations will remain in the local area.
