Google’s latest Android 15 update is now rolling out compatible Android phones and Pixel devices, following it’s announcement back in September.
Android 15 had been available through AOSP initially but wasn’t officially released. Google has announced some exciting new features it has added to this release majorly concerning user privacy, security, and enhancements for tablets and foldable devices.
Private space
Consider it a digital safe for your sensitive apps, such as social media, dating, or banking apps. It hides them from view, making these apps become virtually invisible to others, hidden from your apps list, recent apps view, notifications, and settings.
You can even conceal private space itself from view for added privacy.
Theft detection and device recovery
“Theft Detection Lock” uses AI to automatically lock your phone if it detects it’s being stolen and the thief is trying to run away with it. You can also remotely lock your device from any phone using your number and a security check. Android 15 adds extra protections to prevent thieves from guessing passwords and accessing sensitive settings and info, such as SIM removal, turning of Find My Device, and more.
Improvements to tablet and foldable experience
With Android 15 you can pin and unpin your taskbar, pair apps for easy multitasking, and save favorite combinations for quick access to split-screen mode.
Additional improvements
Camera in low-light conditions gets a Low Light Boost and enhanced in-app controls for third-party apps have also been added. SOS via satellite has also been improved. “Carrier messaging apps can use satellite connectivity to send and receive messages without a mobile or Wi-Fi connection.”
